Brand new experiences at Watatunga now available to book on the website.
This week we have launched a brand new set of experiences, available to book online, and giving the opportunity to see Watatunga Wildlife Reserve from a completely different angle and create memories that will last a lifetime. From private tours to lakeside BBQ’s and photography workshops, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Our 3 hour Photography Workshop has been a huge success and has allowed participants to get really close up with the inhabitants on the reserve. Here’s what happens on the day…
On arrival at Watatunga reception, our dedicated photography tutor and expert guides will greet you and brief you on your tour. You’ll then set off in our open sided safari-trailer to the lakeside. Once there, our visiting photography tutor will brief you and discuss recommended settings and considerations relating to wildlife photography, as well as teaching you about different photography techniques, how to take better pictures, and to how edit your photos. Should you rather, you’re welcome to use this time photographing the birds as our pro will remain on hand throughout the tour to answer questions and help you to get the best out of your camera.
You’ll then head on to find our stunning birds and animals. After approximately 2hrs in the reserve, you’ll reconvene at reception where you’ll have the chance to look at some of your best shots on projector and share tips over refreshments. This experience is aimed at anyone interested in wildlife photography whether with an i-phone or SLR.

You can also book our stunning lakeside BBQ Hut (now with a safari-style stretch tent!) to enjoy a self-catered feast or we can provide a top chef to make the event even more special. And what’s more – you get a Guided Watatunga Tour beforehand!
On arrival at Reception, you will be welcomed with a complimentary hot or cold drink to enjoy during your briefing before setting off on your journey through the reserve. Your tour will be led by one of our expert guides who will give you a unique and personal perspective of our conservation work and the animals who live with us. You guide will lead you to the BBQ hut and bird-hide which is equipped with books and binoculars, to help you to identify what you see. A cosy fire will greet you in the BBQ hut where we offer our self-catered or fine dining experiences.

We are also thrilled to offer Private Tours throughout the winter and springtime and is a chance to get behind the scenes with our wildlife experts amidst the lakes, woodland and animals, and to learn more about the conservation work of our Watatunga team. When you arrive, you will be welcomed with a complimentary hot or cold drink to enjoy during your briefing, before setting off on your journey through the reserve.
During the tour our expert guide will give you a unique and personal perspective of our conservation work and the animals who live with us. As this is a private tour, you will have plenty of time to ask lots of questions – remember to make sure you have your camera to hand, as there will be ample photo opportunities to take photographs of your experience.
