Temminck’s Tragopan
(Tragopan temminckii)
This brightly coloured bird is often regarded as the most beautiful species in the pheasant family. Temminck’s are notoriously shy birds and unlike most pheasants they prefer to nest in trees. This species of tragopan is named after the Dutch zoologist Coenraad Jacob Temminck. Found in the mountains of north east India, living amongst the dense evergreen forests of the uplands. The male displays by puffing up blue wattle which comes down in front of his face with striking red banding.
Threats to species:
The species as a whole is Least Concern and there are no known major threats which affect these birds.
