Responsible Visitor
Responsible Visitor Charter
At Watatunga Wildlife Reserve, we recognise that we have an enormous responsibly towards our environment. As such, are committed to working towards as being as sustainable as possible as a company, but we would also like to ensure that your visit to us is as environmentally friendly as it possible can be. We are an ecotourism attraction and at the heart and soul of Watatunga is the thriving biodiversity of our wildlife reserve, therefore sustainability is of paramount importance to us and all of our Watatunga residents – from the oyster catchers on the lake to our giant water buffalo, the barn owls and everything in-between.
Here are a few ways that you can help us as an organisation:
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
We recycle all waste where possible in several recycling bins around the reception visitor centre so please support us in doing so. If you are unsure which items are recyclable, compostable or general waste please read the signs on the tops of our bins in reception or ask a staff member. If you are planning on buying a few items from our gift shop please bring a re-usable bag as we only offer small recyclable paper bags.

Utilise Public Transport or Car Share
We recognise that are not in a very accessible location via public transport, this is something we are working very hard on! But in the mean time it would be great if you could Car share with the other passengers in your party so that you are able to help us limit emissions when travelling to us. We want to ensure that your whole Watatunga experience is as green as possible, including your travel to and from home.
Utilise our Picnic Area or Our Locally Sourced Products
Within our on site gift shop we only use locally sourced products, therefore you would be helping to support local businesses and rest assured you would have very little food mileage.
Use Re-Usable Drink Flasks
Did you know that if you use your own coffee flask you will receive a 20% discount on any hot drink? Here at Watatunga we would love nothing more than to reduce our waste.
Conserve Water
When using our toilet facilities, please use water wisely and do not leave the taps running.

& Lastly, Respect Nature!
Help us to look after the habitat that many of our residents call home. Watatunga is a living, breathing, biodiversity hub. As such – we do not allow refreshments to be bought onto tours as litter can be incredibly damaging for our residents. Please ‘Leave nothing but footprints’ around our visitor centre.
