Javan Peafowl
(Pavo muticus)
This beautiful bird was found through much of China down through Cambodia, Mynamar, Vietnam and Thailand; sadly many of these birds have been lost and are now considered Extinct in Bangladesh, India and Malaysia. It is thought that the Green Peafowl favors open deciduous forest as it may allow large clutches to be laid to coincide with a seasonal flush of fallen fruit.
Threats to species:
The Green Peafowl is Endangered due to hunting for feathers and collection of eggs and chicks, as well as habitat modification and human disturbance throughout much of the species range.
