Forest School Open!
The Forest School is up and running!
The team have been hard at work finishing the area; a brand new fence is up to keep everyone safe, spaces have been cleared and hammocks have been hung!
This week we held a first taster session which was great success, and starting next week the fabulous Jackie Patnell will be running two sessions a day on Wednesday mornings with a chance for children to play, sing, learn and bathe in the wonder of nature.
Six week blocks of forest school sessions are now available to book online priced at £6/session.
The 9.15-10.30 block can be booked here and the 10.45 – 12.00 session can be booked here.
For siblings, we can offer £6.00 off the block price – please get in touch for a voucher code.
We will also be offering ‘drop-in’ sessions which will be £7.50/session. If you’d like to be kept in the loop about how to book one-off sessions, please get in touch via the website contact form.
Jackie has worked in primary schools for around ten years, with the majority of the decade in Early Years. She loves working with children and has spent the last five years exploring and studying the most effective ways that children learn. She has found that children develop best when they are happy, stress free and are choosing which way to take their learning themselves rather than those decisions being made for them by an adult. She follows the work of Anna Ephgrave and has attended many of her courses that explore a “Planning in the Moment” style of teaching. She has personally seen the positive effects that exploring, learning and simply being outdoors has on children’s development, wellbeing and self-confidence, and this is why she has chosen to leave the classroom behind and bring her experience to outdoors permanently.
Her sessions will see your child singing, dancing, listening and joining in with stories and using those stories to influence the activities on offer. There will be a continuous provision element as is used in pre-school and Reception environments but using the forest as its influence. Independence will be a key objective, with children being encouraged to explore their environment, discover and use tools, create keepsakes that they can take ownership of, and, above all, get really muddy!
Each Wednesday there will be two sessions in the woodland beside Watatunga reception – one at 9.15 to 10.30am and one at 10.45 to 12.00pm. Don’t worry – there are none of our more exotic animals lurking in there!
The sessions will begin with games, songs or stories followed by an activity and then time for free play in the woodland. Our reception will be open before and after your session for a hot drink and toilet facilities.
