Celebrating Community Spirit
Over the past few months, we’ve had the pleasure of participating in and supporting a variety of local events and initiatives that not only bring us closer to the community but also allow us to share the beauty and importance of our natural heritage.
Here’s a look at some of our recent highlights:
The tulip fields that many of you may have heard about, which are visited by thousands every year, are also a huge fundraising effort for Tapping House an end of life care charity based near Hillington. In a vibrant celebration of volunteering, we were proud to sponsor an evening for the hardworking volunteers at Tapping House, a token of appreciation for those who give their time and energy to help others.
The early May Bank Holiday weekend was a delightful blast from the past with the Stradsett Vintage Rally. We loved being part of a fantastic family day out with visitors from all over west Norfolk and beyond. Sheena and Emily were power houses throughout, talking to 100’s of visitors about our wildlife and conservation efforts as well as sparking their creativity with colouring sheets and stories of the reserve and the diverse species we protect. We were then thrilled to welcome many of the visitors from the rally onto our tours over the following days.
Every year, Watlington church comes alive with floral displays from across the parish for the flower festival, organised by the incredibly hard working church wardens and supporters. The church looked beautiful with so many displays and it was a pleasure to add some from the Stable Cottage garden to the bounty. Another recent collaboration and particular highlight this year has been with Kip McGrath in King’s Lynn, where we’ve had the privilege to support a local student with their educational journey.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to be part of the upcoming Watlington fete on June 8th and invite everyone to join us for trailer tours and a closer look at our efforts in wildlife conservation. It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to meet more of our community members and share the critical work we do at the reserve.
At Watatunga, our mission extends beyond conservation. We are dedicated to weaving strong community ties and fostering an environment where education, conservation, and community support can work together and we look forward to more opportunities to engage, support, and grow with our community.
You can stay updated on our upcoming events and community engagement through our blog and website, and we hope to see many of you at the Watlington fete!
