Working with our Local School, Watlington Community Primary School

by | Jan 13, 2025 | Watatunga Blog

We love welcoming school trips to Watatunga Wildlife Reserve and a visit from our local primary school is always a highlight.

For the last three years, we have worked hard to build meaningful connections with the staff and children of Watlington Community Primary School here in West Norfolk, welcoming the whole teaching team for a whistle-stop tour on an INSET day in 2022. The idea behind this was to make the reserve available as a learning resource to as many local children as possible and we felt that inspiring their teachers with the cross-curricular potential of the reserve was a good way to kickstart this.

Since then, we have welcomed class visits for Science topics such as Adaptation or Classification and we have also looked into the African animals and their habitats in detail for children studying Africa in Geography.  The children have used the reserve and their visit as a basis not only for Science but also for some fantastic Literacy work and we love receiving their beautifully illustrated letters after each visit.

As well as safari tours, we also have an outdoor learning site where we have facilitated Forest School sessions and had a lot of fun in the build up to Halloween. We have huge respect for those working within educational settings to make learning fun and engaging for young people and would love to give a shout out to Watlington Community School, our local primary for all they do.

If you know of a local school that might like to visit us, please do check out our new Education page for details of what we can offer.
