Gate Lodge

The perfect gabled cottage for a peaceful retreat, the Gate Lodge is the newest option for a safari stay. Lovingly restored to sleep four people, the historic lodge overlooks one of Watatunga’s breeding paddocks on the edge of the Watlington estate.

Just imagine waking up to spy a blesbok from your bedroom window or relaxing in the garden overlooking your own safari vista.

Our ‘off-show’ paddocks are located right beside the gate lodge, where exotic antelope graze under the ancient oaks. Removed from the bustle of the main reserve, the gate lodge is a short walk or drive from where your buggy is stored and an easy saunter to the village’s award winning local pub. After a briefing tour, guests booking accommodation directly with us have access to a self-drive electric buggy which is available to use in the reserve for the duration of your stay making it the perfect spot for wildlife enthusiasts, photographers or families looking for a safari staycation.
